The LEDC was founded as a non-profit corporation in 1987. Our primary focus then was the creation of the
Business Technology Incubator, which was completed in 1990. The incubator filled almost immediately, with Advanced Hardware Architectures (AHA) and Pacific Simulation being the first tenants.
In 1994, AHA grew too big for the incubator. After an unsuccessful search for a suitable site in Moscow, AHA moved to Pullman, taking with them their 38 employees. After losing AHA, it became apparent that Moscow would continue to lose successful incubator graduates unless something was done. For the next four years, the LEDC led the effort to plan and build a technology park to accommodate incubator graduates and other appropriate businesses. Alturas Technology Park was completed in 1998 As with the incubator, this was accomplished through the combined resources of the LEDC, the City of Moscow, the University of Idaho, Latah County, the State of Idaho, and many local business people. Thanks to Alturas, growing companies, such as Pacific Simulation and Anatek Labs have remained in Moscow, retaining over 40 jobs, averaging over $40,000 per year, and contributing over $2.1 million dollars in revenue to our area.
