Latah County, with a population of 37,244 in 2010, is located in the northern Idaho panhandle adjacent to Whitman County, Washington. These counties are referred to as “the Palouse,” which produces a large share of the wheat, lentils, peas, oat and barley in the United States. The Palouse also produces the leaders and scientists of tomorrow at its two major research universities; University of Idaho and Washington State University. This rich environment of learning and growing is a perfect location for new and expanding businesses.

The largest city in Latah County is Moscow, home to the University of Idaho. The City of Moscow is a vibrant community filled with arts, culture and intellectual diversity. It promotes and supports environmentally sensitive, technology based businesses that use the rich human capital housed at the University. Moscow is home to such businesses as Comtech-AHA, Anatek Labs, Gritman Medical Center, Alturas Analytics, EcoAnalysts and TerraGraphics.

The Town of Genesee, south of Moscow, is the thriving agricultural center of the County. Its rich history of farming has produced a historic downtown with arches, ornamental brickwork, attractive ironwork, and period homes. Genesee’s crop production includes winter and spring wheat, lentils, peas, garbanzo beans, mustard, canola and barley. It is marketed through the innovative Genesee Union Warehouse Co-op.

Potlatch is north of Moscow and is known as a "Historic Company Town" from its history as a lumber community. It has a wealth of commercial/industrial property in its Potlatch River Ridge Redevelopment area that can be used for new or expanding businesses. Its strategic location, just fifteen miles from the University of Idaho and an hour from Coeur d'Alene make it an ideal business location. Just two miles north of Potlatch is PNW Arms, an industry leader in specialized ammunitions, weapons and aerospace manufacturing.

The City of Troy is east of Moscow and is becoming a thriving entrepreneurial community for those who prefer easy access to the University of Idaho’s assets but want to live in a small community. Troy is the home of the internationally known business called “Potting Shed Creations”.

The county's remaining towns including Bovill, Deary, Kendrick and Juliaetta are small communities that have historically thrived on value added natural resource development. Many of the communities now serve as bedroom communities for Moscow and in recent years have seen an increase of retirees to their towns.
